Inspired by Jens Risom, a former Knoll designer who later opened his own manufacturing and furniture design firm in Connecticut, The Rhizome Chair brings visual warmth and texture to mid-century modern design. Made with cherry wood and reinforced cotton webbing, using traditional mortise and tenon joinery, as well as walnut-doweled corner bridal joints on the armrests.
Available in sizes small and medium. Custom color options. Available in cherry, maple, and walnut.
Finished with Danish Oil.
Made of solid walnut with through-tenon joinery, locked in place with walnut dowels. Genuine, full-grain leather protective pads on the bottom of the legs provide a soft feel and protect your floors. Inspired by the design of a stool seen in the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York City.
And they’re stackable!
Use them as stools, side tables, plant stands, or all of the above.
Handcrafted with love and care in New Haven with sustainably resourced walnut from the Eastern US.
Finished with Danish oil.
The “lowly” sitting stool is an unsung hero in the furniture world. Visually and physically, they occupy less space than chairs and large ottomans. You can have several scattered about, topped with trays for decor or serving food, and as the room fills up with people, these stools can save the day. A nod to one of our favorite CT-based mid-century modern designers, Jens Risom, the Rhizome Sitting Stool is part of our Rhizome Series, which features simple, modern, handcrafted chairs, sitting stools, bar stools, and benches made with hardwoods, strong cotton webbing, and all-wood joinery. Includes adjustable feet.
Made from reclaimed cherry.
Fabric protection is applied to webbing to help prevent stains.
Pair with The 9th Square Tray, designed to fit perfectly over the Rhizome Stool to hold food or for decorative purposes.
This item is discounted because it was a proof-of-concept model, aka the OG of the Rhizome Stool series.
