The Sean & Douglass - Serving Tray

$100.00

ECW serving trays are an ode to one designed by the Japanese American master woodworker, George Nakashima. The sapele (African mahogany) handles are carefully hand-sculpted. The split-bottom tray and underside dowel fasteners are designed with a purpose. Wood expands and contracts with the seasons. The gap between the two boards helps ease the tension. Likewise, only the middle dowel on each end of the two boards is glued all the way through. The outside dowels are glued to the tray, but not the handle. The slight movement you sometimes feel in the handle is not a flaw but a design feature common in Japanese craftsmanship. It helps ensure the longevity of your butler-style serving tray by preventing cracks and other failures caused by wood movement. Choose between hard white maple or cherry.

Finished with food-safe 100% tung oil.
